Branding SSRS, and make it look like an Intranet

If you want to enhance the user experience and feeling of a group of Reporting Services  reports and don't have SharePoint? You don't have to use the standard report library. Below is a screenshot where I use a tabular navigation looking a lot like a web site using just SSRS 2008 R2 standalone. The tabs are just actions that points to another report using the same header subreport. The user can navigate within the reports without having to go the the report library.

You could also brand use the web service interface to find reports and create your own branded SSRS portal using a SSRS report.

    1. Every report has the header subreport with the "tabs" in the beginning. You set the active tab with a parameter from the containing report.

Drop me an email if you wan't more details.

  2. I can't seem to find your email address. I understand now how you are doing it. I wanted to say that there is a 3rd option also. I have done for a customer that needed something quick and easy. Make an html page that sets up an upper and lower frame. The html for the upper frame is a nav bar. Just a table and some Css from this site: http://www.w3schools.com/css/tryit.asp?filename=trycss_navbar_horizontal_advanced. Every link should target the lower frame and you just have to link to the reports or a directory on the SSRS. I like to link to certain directories with the 'detail view' option set in the link in the Nav bar. One advantage to doing it this way is when users need to print reports, the navigation structure of the "website" is not included. More real estate for the report page.

  4. How do you manage permissions with the solution suggested, allowing user to access or not access individual reports?
    Thanks Bodo
